Job Description
The IT Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the university's information technology initiatives. This role involves managing the IT department, ensuring the security and integrity of university data, and facilitating the effective use of technology across the institution.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement the university's IT strategy, aligning it with the institution's mission and goals.
- Oversee the management of IT infrastructure, including networks, hardware, software, and systems.
- Ensure data security and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Lead and mentor the IT team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Collaborate with academic departments to identify technological needs and implement solutions that support teaching, learning, and research.
- Manage the IT budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective solutions.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on the university.
- Facilitate training and support for faculty, staff, and students to optimize technology use.
- Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on technology-related issues.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field and 3-5 years professional experience, including one or more years experience working in Higher Education.
- Graduate degree(s) in Computer Science or Management Information Systems preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Experience with budget management and strategic planning.
- Proven track record of aggressive and innovative leadership with staff personnel and others
- Effective communication skills and collegial working relationships
- Experience implementing dynamic strategies which achieve their objective
- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with all the University constituents.
- Experience with cloud computing and enterprise resource planning (ERP) and Student Information Systems (SIS).
- Familiarity with academic technologies and learning management systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NIST Standards
- Comprehensive knowledge of ITIL Framework
- Commitment to the mission and vision of the University.
SUPERVISION
- This position reports to the Vice President of Administration & Finance
SALARY RANGE
- $90,000 - $95,000 Annually, plus benefits!

- Full-time, in-person.
SETTING
Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University is Austin's first institution of higher education. The University is an independent, liberal arts, church-related, historically black institution located on a 23-acre tree-lined campus near downtown Austin, Texas. The University is affiliated with United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, and the United Negro College Fund. Undergraduate, four-year degrees in business, education, the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences are awarded.
